Overview

[edit]

Kimpton, which pioneered the boutique hotel category in the U.S., has been innovating in hospitality since it was founded by Bill Kimpton in 1981. Today, the San Francisco-born luxury lifestyle brand owns its boutique roots while continuing its pioneering spirit, operating more than 75 properties and over 100 restaurants, bars and lounges across urban locations, resort destinations and up-and-coming markets globally. Kimpton continues to expand into new markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Greater China while introducing new brand offerings.

Kimpton has always been more than a collection of hotels – it is a global network of design-led properties that act as vibrant hubs for sparking authentic human connections in the communities they serve. As creators and hosts of inventive, personal experiences, Kimpton colleagues deliver warm and refreshingly unscripted moments.

On December 16, 2014, IHG announced that it would acquire Kimpton for $430 million in cash. IHG retained the Kimpton brand name within the U.S. and continues its expansion globally. Recent openings include Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa in Mexico, Kimpton Claret Hotel in Denver and Kimpton BEM Budapest in Hungary, which joined IHG’s Low Carbon Pioneers program, creating a community of energy efficient hotels that have no fossil fuels combusted on-site and are backed by renewable energy. Upcoming destinations include Frankfurt, Portugal’s Algarve, Malaysia and the Middle East. Additionally, Kimpton Tres Rios Riviera Maya, the brand’s first all-inclusive resort, is slated to debut in 2025.

Company programs

[edit]

Environment

[edit]

The company's environmental program is called Earthcare. Every hotel adopts standard environmentally friendly products and practices, such as eco-friendly cleaning supplies and recycling.[5]

LGBT

[edit]

Every year, the company sponsors a red ribbon campaign generating awareness and funds for local HIV service agencies. Local hotels make donations to LGBT charities and host events for local community groups. Kimpton formed K-GLEN, the Kimpton Gay and Lesbian Employee Network, to advise the company on personnel and community outreach concerns. The committee meets quarterly and has representation from every region of the country. The company was included as one of the ten best companies for gay and lesbian employees by The Advocate.[6] It has received a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index released by the Human Rights Campaign every year since 2005.[7]

Women InTouch

[edit]

The company sponsors Dress for Success Worldwide, an international non-profit organization that provides professional clothing and employment search programs for women.[8]
